Tree Partner Solutions AB (TPS) manages forest holdings in East Africa, and the majority of TPS’ owners come from Scandinavia. The main investment consists of trees of the African mahogany genus Melia.
TPS coordinates the ownership of the planted forest holdings in a Swedish limited company, with plans for future IPO.
Why do we invest in forests in East Africa?
Four-year-old Melia volkensii trees in the Seven Forks area, Kenya.
The trees are planted in collaboration with a school to increase their food supply. The planting is done in a so-called ”alley cropping” -a method where trees and crops create synergies for the benefit of the whole.
Planting trees in the semi-deserts of East Africa is, in addition to being a good deed, also an incredibly good deal. It takes only fifteen to twenty years to produce a fully-grown African mahogany tree. The timber has a high market value and is adapted to the harsh environment of the semi-desert.
The effect of planting trees in semi-deserts is that after only a few years the trees shade the ground, which means that the soil is not depleted by the sun but becomes usable for other crops as well. Together with the farmers, we counteract many of the negative effects that are a direct consequence of today’s climate challenges.
Our partner Better Globe Forestry Ltd. (BGF)
BGF was founded in 2006. Their vision and long-term goals are to reduce poverty and corruption in East Africa through social entrepreneurship and massive tree planting in the semi-desert.
BGF’s role is twofold: to grow tree seedlings and enter into agreements with farmers’ cooperatives to plant and care for the trees until they are ready for felling.
BGF is an award-winning company with great recognition as a pioneer in reforestation in the semi-deserts of East Africa.
For TPS, working with BGF is a given. We are incredibly grateful to have BGF as a partner in our company
”Strategic partnerships are meant to generate growth that can’t be done on its own. TPS complements BGF and will be capable to market the goodwill built around BGF and its unique model.
This strategic partnership will allow BGF to concentrate on what we are good at, planting trees in an arid and semi-arid land. At BGF we truly believe that the strategic combination with TPS is part of a winning growth strategy.”
